Blow molding, also known as hollow blow molding, is a widely used and rapidly developing plastic processing method. It works by using air pressure to inflate a molten parison placed inside closed molds, so as to form hollow products. Different from injection molding, blow molds only consist of female molds. Blow molding equipment features low cost, strong adaptability and excellent formability, and can fabricate products with intricate curved surfaces and undulating profiles.
Extrusion blow molding has the following advantages over injection molding:
Blow molding-grade plastics (such as PE) have a much higher molecular weight than injection molding-grade plastics. Accordingly, blow molded products possess superior impact toughness and excellent resistance to environmental stress cracking, making them ideal for manufacturing containers and large drums used for packaging or transporting detergents and chemical reagents.
Blow molding is capable of producing products with extremely thin walls, which cannot be manufactured via injection molding.
It can produce integrated products with complex and irregular shapes. In contrast, such products have to be divided into two or more separate parts when using injection molding. These parts are then assembled together through snap fit, solvent bonding, ultrasonic welding and other joining methods.
